by Dorothy Huffey (Las Vegas Review Journal, February 19, 2001) An Italian family tradition ... Since 1955, when the Perry family opened the Venetian Pizzeria on Fremont Street, and the 1960s, the Venetian Restaurant on West Sahara, Las Vegans have enjoyed the family's Italian recipes and hospitality. In 1972, the family celebrated the opening of the Bootlegger Ristorante at
Tropicana and Eastern, and joined forces with their daughter Lorraine and her husband "Blackie" Hunt, popular Las Vegas entertainers. Now, the restaurant has moved to 7700 Las Vegas Boulevard, South, just south of Off 5th Saks Fifth Ave Outlet. Daughter Lorraine Hunt is now Nevada's lieutenant governor, and when time permits she still aids her mother, Maria Perry, and dad, Albert Perry, at the new Bootlegger Bistro where Blackie oversees and greets guests.
Last month
before the restaurant officially opened, the Hunts invited a group of friends including Francine and Terry Graves, Ruth and John DiBiase, Sydnee and Dave Smith, Lia and Joseph Roberts, Paul Huffey, Joyce and Frank Modica to the new Bistro to sample all those wonderful family recipes once again, and to enjoy "Blackie's" piano artistry and Lorraine's singing of favorite songs. It wasn't long before Paul Lowden joined Blackie at the piano surprising all with his keyboard
talent. It was a most enjoyable evening for state Sen. Ann and Bob O'Connell, state Sen. Randolph and Robyne Townsend, state Sen. Mike and Candi Schneider, Controller Kathy Augustine, Sue Lowden, Marilyn and Mel Larson. Copyright 2001 Las Vegas Review Journal |
